Passion Heart was known for being a late bloomer and Passionist has followed suit. Steve expects the firey daughter of Hokum and Passion Heart to be no different. She's taken her time to mature and he's sure with some nice undercard races Mercy will round out to be quite the race horse in her later years. Hokum was known for his dramatic leap from G5 to G1 in a single season just as Passion Heart is known for her leap of G5-G2 in a single season. The proof is in the pudding with this one and everyone is holding their breath waiting for this volatile filly's career to take off.
Looking at her parents one would think why would you even consider putting those two together. Well, temperament wise, maybe it wasn't the best decision, but talent and speed wise, the result would be amazing right? Well, that's exactly what happened. Mercy is the spitting image of her mom, only about one solid hand taller. She's a monster of a filly and has a temperament to match. Whereas Passion Heart had her moments, Mercy is constantly a grump that lunges at people as they walk by her stall, a quality we believe came from her sire. Mercy fights everyone if she thinks in her best interest not to do something you cannot make her do it. She'll charge people, she'll bite, kick, and launch them from her back just to prove that she can.
Mercy is a large animal, and that's something she uses to her advantage. At 16.2 hands she knows she's intimidating and she does often use herself as a battering ram because she knows you cannot stop her. She's an exquisite animal and can silence a person with just a look. Mercy is quite simply a breath-taking horse that no one has ever experienced before. She has this presence about her, that aura of a champion when she steps off a trailer, or onto the track. She has these long scrawny legs that somehow look absolutely perfect on her frame. And, to anyone who doesn't know her. She's so unbelievably balanced and wastes no effort in useless motions while running. She has an incredible knack for running and has talent to burn. She does share Passion Heart's hatred for losing, and after a close or tough loss she'll get so angry that on some days she has to be situated to get her under control. She's usually at that point turned out in the paddock to run off all of her energy and an kick her anger out.
