Personality:
Passionate Ruler and Heart of Stone were known for producing late bloomers, Passion Heart's progeny seems to follow that general curve. Lass seems to follow in the footsteps her family tree. When the filly stepped off the trailer for her three year old season to begin, Steve felt she wasn't ready. Slow to improve and resistant to train, Lass was turned out for a year to just be a horse. Her personality took a total 180. She was brought up from the pasture with the open broodmares one day and gone was the nasty ill tempered filly. Lass would love to crawl into your lap if you'd let her, you can often find this filly dozing off in her stall with Andrew taking a snooze on her belly. The two are almost inseparable. Lass is more than happy to follow you around the farm without a halter, sometimes Andrew will let the filly out to graze with just her halter on and she'll remain outside for days never straying too far from the barn for fear it may disappear one day on her.
Lass is an aloof horse, not much bothers her. She's bombproof and loves the company of people more than that of other horses. She lacks social skills, likely something she learned from her dam. When let out into the field, she'll run right into the middle of a group of horses and start kicking out at all of them with her ears pinned to her skull. She wants to have friends but she also wants to be the supreme leader of everything and she really can't quite figure out how to maintain that balance. As a result she has a resentment of most horses because she simply doesn't understand them, she has a few select friends but not many.
She's a strong willed filly but only when provoked, she takes quite a bit of flack before she'll finally snap on someone or something. She's quick to punish but then easily forgives. This made her training when her four year old year came around much easier. She was far more pliable and easily molded into a formidable force. Her energy on the track is far calmer than that of most of the horses Grayson Meadows owns. Lass has excellent self control when it comes to her workouts and races, and maintains her composure under the pressure that racing in front of large crowds can bring.
One last thing, this filly likes people but is choosy about who she LOVES and adores in life. Andrew was someone she latched onto pretty quickly, and while Andrew and Passion Heart had a love-hate relationship, his relationship with the daughter of Passion Heart is far more endearing. The two are the bestest of friends. She also is head over heels in love with our farrier. She loves licking his face and nibbling on his back and ears when presented with the opportunity. Scared the bejesus out of him at first but he's grown to love the filly too and will carry treats in his pockets for her to find and nibble on while he does her feet.

Surface Preference: Turf
Distance: 7-12 Furlongs (2f extension) Grade: Two Trainer: Steve Wilson Jockey: Andrew Martin Leg Type: Front Runner Lass is a fierce runner ready to run her race from the start of the gate to the end of the wire. Right when the gates are open the filly is fast to shoot for the lead throughout the entire race. Lass can be quite the bully to those who dare challenge her for the lead but once she sees eye to eye with her opponents she takes off to push faster where she settles down towards the end until the final stretch where she then uses her speed to dash for the wire where her ears are always perked up. Once this filly takes off it can be quite the challenge to catch her. |
