"You think I'm insulted? I'm a pirate. An excellent pirate." - Salladhor Saan
Personality:
Oh Salladhor... Where do we even begin with this horse. Salladhor was a sprightly colt form day one, Hadley loves to tell the story about how this colt pretty much hit the ground running when he was born, he stood up the fastest she'd ever seen any foal stand in her years of raising foals. Salladhor has always been an independent type of horse he rarely relies on the mental support of other horses and never relied much on his dam at all for mental stimulation. He often found his way on the other side of GM's farm gorging himself on the finest patch of clover he could find while Dia would scream at him and pace up and down the fence of her pasture anxiously awaiting his return. Now, Hadley runs a pretty tight ship over here at Grayson Meadows, our fencing is immaculate to say the least, to this day it is unknown how Salladhor managed to escape his pasture so frequently as a young colt, it's a real headscratcher here at GM and unfortunately it was truly just the beginning. Salladhor is much larger now, however his escape artist tendencies were not something he outgrew. No matter the type of lock, latch or gate, Salladhor will find a way to escape and he usually will take a few other horses with him. Salladhor seems to always be scheming and is often referred to as 'shifty eyed' by the staff because you truly never know exactly what this colt has up his sleeve but it can't be good.
Now if being an escape artist was his only quirk the GM staff would be sitting pretty well with this colt, however that's only where the quirks begin. Salladhor has also been endearingly nick named 'tricky bastard' because he has a nasty habit of stealing the staff's stuff at GM. Cell phones have gone missing, water bottles found years after they've gone missing, jackets found in places they weren't worn, boots scattered around the farm, you name it all roads will always come back to one horse... Salladhor. He's something of a Kleptomaniac and often can be found with a pile of goodies he has stolen from around the farm either in his stall or his paddock and it's not even that he needs any of this stuff it's just that he doesn't want anyone else to have it. Like it's brushes, bailing twine, buckets and shoes. All of these things literally have no use to him but he will not let you take them once he's gotten his grubby little hooves on them. One thing is for sure, always keep your stuff out of reach of this horse if it has any importance or value to you because you likely won't be getting it back once he has it.
Perhaps all of these quirks arose form Salladhor's immense amount of pleasure that he takes in the misfortune of others. Salladhor has some very VERY poor social skills with other horses and is known for running his pasturemates to the point of exhaustion. As a matter of fact, we are pretty sure this colt could run all day if you let him and never show signs of being tired because he seems to think it is fun forcing others to run with him. However, when taken to the track this odd quirk makes him quite the gutsy animal to deal with.

Racing Info:
Race Record: 6-2-1-2
Earnings: Surface Preference: Dual (SS applied)
Distance: 5-8 Furlongs Grade: Grade Five Trainer: Aaron Evertt Jockey: Alex Shade Leg Type: Variable with mid-pack tendencies Salladhor isn't the quickest horse to break from the pack, he likes to buy himself some time before taking a run at the front runners. He certainly seems to like the scheme some to figure out what his next move is, it's one of the rare times he's actually willing to work with his jockey so they can both come out of the race victorious. He's known for shooting through on the rail and coming from the clouds to pull off an impressive win, but it isn't uncharacteristic of him to shoot to the front of the field and get into a speed duel with a front runner, really depends on the day. One thing that this colt will always be known for his his impressive ability to kick it into another gear when everyone expects him to finally be spent. |
