Personality:
Looking at Max you wouldn't think he'd run anything like he does. He's ridiculously small compared to most horses on the track and one of his strides more than likely equals two of that of a larger horse. However, what Max lacks in size he more than makes up for in determination and guts. This plucky little horse knows his job and he absolutely loves it. Max has always been known for taking laps around the pasture with other horses and no matter what he is always in front. He knows his size and can't easily fit through tight spots because he's built like a freight train but he'll force his way through them anyways. His competitive nature makes him a force to be reckoned with on the track. He's known for getting into speed duels and he will run his opponent into the ground just to have his nose in front.
Max would never be caught with his ears slicked to the back of his head and is a very agreeable horse, he's known as the diplomat around Grayson Meadows because he can befriend anyone. He isn't pushy but is respected by most of the horses and workers on the property. Aaron thinks if this horse was a person he would likely be some sort of foreign diplomat or a well respected politician.
Most people would look at this horse and think he was a very aloof kind of man, super laid back and perfectly okay sitting in the pasture on his own. However, he's smart as a whip and takes the world in around him before making any sort of decision. He's solid and stoic. He rarely gets himself into trouble and when he does you won't catch him having an absolute meltdown, nope this horse just accepts the cards he's been dealt and even if it seems like he's bound to die he'll stand still and wait for assistance from his handlers. This makes him incredibly pliable and easy to navigate in a race, he's very attentive to his jockey and if he thinks his handler is wrong he will politely deny them and choose to do things his own way.
He's from unknown lines, he's small, he was purchased for a mere $500 and he's conformationally not the prettiest horse to look at but that is what makes him perfect for Grayson Meadows and their training program. Max has all the makings of a Cinderella story and with the right management Aaron thinks he has the ability to fulfill that story.
Why on gods green earth would Hadley ever purchase such a horse you ask? His charming personality did in fact win her over, however it was also his linage that did as well. Her grandfather owned Arian Ray and Annevar for a sizable period of time. Arian Ray was a champion two year old at Fonner Park many years ago, he was well known for winning many of the unlisted juvenile stakes races on the track and had always been a track favorite wherever he went. Arian Ray amassed a whopping 31 wins in over 200 starts over his career. Annevar was a lesser known mare around the track, she never won anything beyond her maiden but had produced a few successful sport horses over the years. Hadley hopped the crossing of the feisty mare with the sweet stallion would produce a mild mannered well rounded race horse. As far as she can tell, the shoe seemed to fit Max.

Racing Info:
Surface Preference: Dirt
Distance: 5-8 Furlongs Grade: Three Trainer: Aaron Evertt Jockey: Alex Shade Leg Type: Front Runner Max loads like a charm and rockets out of the gate at a breakneck speed. He's a dangerous type that if he's allowed to run loose on the lead he will absolutely play with the field and thump them by a mile. However, this comes at a cost. If he misses the break this horse HATES having dirt in his face and the race is lost before it really even gets started. This is a work in progress at the moment with him but what can we say, he's not a fan of getting dirty. He's honest in speed duels and can rate when asked. When the time comes for him to put in everything he has at the top of the stretch he can be a bit slow to respond but once you get him in his top gear he'll rocket past anyone in front of him. He's not always the prettiest winner but he'll get it done. |
