Personality:
Grayson Meadows has had very few mares who are as ill behaved as this one, Hadley had hoped Devi would have all the sweet traits of her mother and was incredibly disappointed from almost day one with this filly. She's bipolar, rude, nasty and just all around wicked. Hadley nearly separated Devi from her dam early because of the abuse Tia took from this filly. She hates people and horses alike and would much rather spend her days alone in her paddock with nothing more than a pile of hay and a salt lick for company. Her social skills are literally non existent and she doesn't much care how others feel about her since this is Devi's world and everyone else just happens to be living in it. She does however have a soft spot for Aaron, she's always on her best behavior when in Aaron's presence and loves getting smothered in love from her. Sam thinks it's a red head thing, Steve thinks the filly is just bat shit crazy and everyone else, well they just think she's picky.
She's not a favorite of any staff member at Grayson Meadows as her dam was, mostly because she has to be handled by two people at any given point in time, one on each side of her, and she'll still drag them if she feels the need. Devi doesn't take well to being caught and often has to be left in a small paddock with her halter on because she would rather run all day then be caught by anyone. She's a rough ride and we aren't referring to her stride... she really likes to buck. Lawn darting her jockey really is a game to her and one she thoroughly enjoys. Aaron likes to say this filly just wants to get nice and stretched out before her works but no one is buying that. She's an absolute wildcard and you never know what version of her you are going to get at any given point in time. Andrew is convinced this filly suffers from multiple personality disorder because she can go from sweet and cuddly to fire breathing dragon from the depths of hell in the blink of an eye.
This tough independent filly has a single weakness though... rocks. Specifically large ones. Absolutely horrifying I tell you. There's no way she will even get within two feet of one. Smaller ones usually don't bother her, unless shes particularly alert that day. It's pretty hit or miss but she's an absolute mess when she sees one. She attempted to launch herself over a larger rock in a paddock when she was just a foal and was not successful, she's never forgiven the rocks for that. They're all evil... don't ask her why, they just are.
When being tacked up she does her best to annoy her handler in any way she can, she knocks over buckets and brushes when presented with the chance to do so. She knows her handlers level of experience and will take advantage of any weakness that is presented to her, she's broken a great many halters pulling back and cross ties by flipping over in them. A simple fix to the problem would be to just tie her right? Nope, she flips over when tied to a solid object. Cross ties back against a wall is the best place for this filly. All around she's just one massive ***hole.
However despite her less than stellar attitude Devi is a brilliant runner and hails from some of the best sprinting lines that the industry has to offer and it shows. She's built like a tank with a short back and deep chest. She runs as beautifully as a swan and her larger stride propels her across a vast amount of ground. It's said that this filly spends more time in the air than with her hooves on the ground and it's true. She's got guts up the wazu and will happily run her opponents into the ground before yielding to anyone. Her pain tolerance exceeds that of most horses, she once hid the fact she had an abscess and ran on it for a month before it finally burst, she never took a lame step. She isn't afraid to put her guts into a race and her willingness to run makes her that much more lethal of a foe to meet up with on the track.

Distance: 5-8 Furlongs Grade: Maiden Trainer: Aaron Evertt Jockey: Alex Shade Leg Type: Front Runner/Pace Presser Devi is a less than willing participant when it comes to loading the gate and is known for holding up races for long periods of time due to her stubborn and volatile personality. On a good day she'll resist for only a moment, if she's feeling generous, on a bad day, well... let's just say that her gate manners are embarrassing. Once loaded she's pretty good about focusing on the manner at hand. She rocket from the gates at a breakneck speed to see if she can entice her opponents into a speed duel. Her hatred of other horses really shines through during races and she has been known to attempt to take chunks out of others, she usually runs with blinkers to help curb this undesirable habit of hers. If she is challenged she'll step back for a moment and let the leader take control of the race, but she'll press them until they have nothing left then she'll take off with a snappy turn of foot at the beginning of the stretch. She almost always looks like she has nothing left in the tank when the time comes to run but suddenly just explodes with an impressive turn of foot where she'll draw off and hit the wire. |
