Proctor is generally a fairly reasonable animal, but it's safe to say he's nobody's pet. He's got a nasty streak in him when he's inside his stall, and has a bite guard over the top of the door - he's got a bad habit of reaching out and grabbing passers-by, kind of like a kennel-aggressive dog. It's important to be firm with him when entering his stall, as he'll take advantage if he isn't immediately told that he needs to behave. He doesn't really kick or strike, just bite, so he's surprisingly easy to work on as long as someone good has his head. He's better behaved outside of his stall, since he's got more things to distract him,but you still have to pay attention if you don't want a sly nip. He's pretty content if he's allowed to bite on the brass plate of a shank.
Outside he's very quiet, settling right down onto the grass and happily eating away. He's not bothered by other horses, and for the most part he'll just ignore them even if they're in the next paddock throwing a fit. He's bold, and will come right up to you when you call him to the gate - sometimes it's necessary to swat him back, because he'll bull right over you if given the chance. That bold, independent character will serve him well as a racehorse, though, and his overall strong build and big chest shows a propensity for speed. He can be distracted at the beginning of a work, but after getting his kicks out he settles pretty well. A firm guiding hand is important for him.

Surface Preference: Dirt
Distance: 5-8 furlongs Grade: One Trainer: Aaron Evertt Jockey: Alex Shade Leg Type: Closer Proctor doesn't have a whole lot of go-get-'em at the beginning of a race, and always breaks at least a length behind the rest of the horses. He's got surprising stamina for a sprinter, even if he doesn't have the quick acceleration that some do. So it's important to get him going early, as he'll start rolling on and picking horses off one by one before hitting his top, brilliant speed in the last furlong. It's crucial to send him running at the right time to make sure that he has that rolling steam to overtake his competition, but once he's rolling there's very little that can stop him. |
