Personality:
This here, this is Marlene. Mean Marlene to be exact except she isn't quite what her name would suggest. While not exactly a nasty horse by nature Marlene has a separate presence about her that leads much of the GM staff to believe she could silence a room with just a look. Drop-dead-gorgeous this horse is the epitome of what a sprinter should look like. Built like a freight train with muscle on top of muscle, short backed, broad chested and to top it all off a big blaze and two socks what isn't there to love about her?
Now we wouldn't go as far to describe this mare as sweet, as a matter of fact she's much more aloof. Marlene isn't the social type and is often found being independent off in the pasture a ways away from any horse. She's about as bombproof as they come and to be frank nothing really bothers her at all. She's pliable, easy going and honest no matter where she goes. That being said... every horse has their own set of quirks and Marlene is no exception to that rule. But what quirks could a bland horse possibly have you ask? Oh you just wait. Marlene loves oreos... I mean off brand oreos, not the on brand, off brand, because that makes a pretty big difference. They're like gold to this horse if she hears you opening the package her ears are up and she's either right behind you or shes craning as far as she can out of her stall in hopes that you'll notice her. She also LOVES Dr. Pepper, not pepsi, not coke, not dr. pibb or any off brand nonsense there, nope, just Dr. Pepper. After a race it's one of her favorite snacks and much like the oreos she can tell the difference. Dr. Pepper only, anything else is just unacceptable.
Now if her quirks were only food related Marlene probably would be deemed the easiest horse ever in the barn however there is two more things that she's notorious for around the farm. She can't be tied. Cross ties are a no go and any solid object is also a no go. Why you ask? She flips over. She doesn't just pull back like a normal horse she flips over. Try as we might, some habits just never die and frankly this is one of them. She's pretty good about standing still and waiting for you to do whatever it is you need to do so typically it isn't an issue but if some poor soul ties this horse to a stall they're in for a rude awakening and by that we mean the stall door will likely be detached and on the ground with this horse standing there with a broken lead rope or halter. Oh and everything and we mean EVERYTHING goes in her mouth. She's like a toddler you can't leave her alone for too long outside or she'll come up with a snake in her mouth or a mouse or Harriet, Captian Stark's favorite chicken. If you wanna hear what a horse screaming like a banshee sounds like just hang around the farm for a hot minute and you'll find out very very quickly if this filly gets her mouth on that chicken.

Race Record: 11-3-3-1 (70%)
Earnings: Surface Preference: Dirt
Distance: 5-8 Furlongs Grade: Five Trainer: Aaron Evertt Jockey: Jason Todd Leg Type: Jack of all Trades Marlene is rarely bothered by anything so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that she can run just about anywhere you put her and is always game no matter the race conditions. She's always agreeable when loaded into the gate and never misses the break. She's a bit of a wildcard for the first furlong of a race because no one is really sure exactly what she's going to do however once she settles into a spot whether its on the front, at the back or with the pack or every single one of those before settling on a different spot than you initially thought she was going to. The one thing that really doesn't change is her turn of foot come time for the stretch run. It doesn't matter if she's on the front or coming from the clouds, she'll blast by her competitors or leave them in the dust. |
